Sunday

10 am and 11 am Meditation in the Great Hall

We are very pleased to open the Great Hall for Private Meditation throughout July and August (with the exception of Sunday 2nd August). There are two
slots of about 40 minutes starting at 10am and 11 am. If you would like to
reserve a place please email Helen at info@sheffeldbuddhistcentre.org, but it is also
fine just to turn up. It is very moving to be back sitting in the Great
Hall after all this time. so if you can come it is worth it.

Because we are following guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19 we are
doing things a little differently than normal so please read these instructions
carefully.

·        Please come early. The doors will open at 9:45 and 10:45 so we can start
the meditation on the hour. We have space for 13 people to meditate at one time
with a 2m distance.

·        Please come to the door that opens directly into
the Great Hall, up the steps by the Remembrance Garden from Joseph Road. (These
are the doors we normally use for latecomers.) All other entrances to the
Centre will be closed.

·        We are following social distancing guidelines so there will be limited
spaces in the Great Hall and you may need to wait outside for a few minutes.

·        This is a chance to meditate and enjoy the atmosphere of the Great Hall.
There will be just a bell at the beginning and a bell at the end of the sit.

·        Please bring your own meditation equipment: mat, blanket, cushions or
stool if you prefer, or you can use the Centres equipment which is then
quarantined for 72 hours.

·       Tea making facilities and toilets won’t be available but you are very
welcome to bring your own drink and sit in the garden after the private
meditation slot if you’d like to.

Thank you to Sarah and Helen who are coordinating the meditation

Sangha Works Days

Sangha works Days

Government guidance permitting we will be running four Sangha works mornings at the Buddhist Centre starting on the 18th of July. They will be focused on preparing the building and grounds for the gradual reopening of the Buddhist Centre. More details will follow in the coming weeks. If you are interested in coming along please send us an email at info@sheffieldbuddhistcentre.org.

Events for Mitras and Training for Ordination Mitras

The Zoom links for mitra events will be emailed to to those with their details are on the Centre’s database.  If you are not on the database or have changed your email address, email us on info@sheffieldbuddhistcentre.org

Join the TFO (training for ordination) women’s community reflecting on the meaning of ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Order.    The event will include meditation, talks, reflection time, discussion and ritual and will begin an exploration of the commitments of ordination.

Come along to meet your sisters on the ordination path and many of our Sheffield Dharmacharinis.

Led by: Punyamala, Santasiddhi and Suryamati

The Zoom link for these events will be emailed to all women training for ordination whose details are on the Centre’s database.  If you are not on the database or have changed your email address, email us on info@sheffieldbuddhistcentre.org .

Online Meditations

Three times a day, six days a week

Online Meditations

The Buddhist Centre Online is offering three open meditation spaces Monday to Saturday via the Zoom platform.

A few things have changed with our meditation schedule! Here’s what you need to know to connect:

  • Sessions will last for 45 minutes.
  • ‘Open meditation’ means that none of the sessions each day will be guided. Just bring your own practice and meditate with us!

Zoom

Thanks to the wonders of technology, we still have an opportunity to connect with each other regularly. Instead of being together in a physical place, we’ll be hearing, discussing and practising the Dharma in a virtual one.  You can join events online using Zoom – a fantastic program that allows us to keep a connection each other.

How to install Zoom

  1. Download Zoom to your computer, tablet or phone: You can do this by following the link https://zoom.us/ or use your Android or iPhone store.
  2. Sign up with your email address and name (you can use the free version)
  3. They’ll send you an email and you need to click a link on this to verify your email address.
  4. When you open the application a box will appear. Click ‘use computer audio’.

Top Tips:

  • Check the strength of your internet connection, try and sit somewhere that gives you the strongest signal
  • You might need to charge your device part way through so have a charging cable handy.
  • Your sound and video may be muted. If so click the microphone icon and the video icon at the bottom of your screen
  • During a discussion group you keep your microphone muted until you want to speak, this cuts down on background noise helping everyone follow the conversation
  • There are two ways to view people in Zoom. Speaker mode brings up the person talking central on your screen. Gallery mode allows you to see everyone in your group at the same time. Try switching between the two to find a view that best works for you.
